Torch Run to start at KCC, raise funds for Special Olympics

Kellogg Community College  will be the starting point for runners and others participating in the 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run, which begins at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in the parking lot adjacent to the Miller Physical Education Building at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek.

Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. and costs $25, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support the Special Olympics, including the cost of athletic uniforms, sports equipment, facility and housing fees and training for coaches.

The 3.2-mile run will begin at the college and end at the Doris Klaussen Developmental Center, 408 Jameson Ave. In-line skaters and bicyclists are welcome to participate.

The event is one of a number of Special Olympics fundraising initiatives held by law enforcement officers throughout the year, including dodge ball tournaments, Polar Plunges and merchandise sales.
