Kellogg Community College is offering a pair of Spring Break Robotics Camps in April for youth in third through fifth grades.

Both camps will be held at KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center, 405 Hill Brady Road, in Battle Creek. The cost for each camp is $119, though campers may attend both camps for a total reduced rated of $199.

Campers attending both camps should bring their own lunch. Space in each camp is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Camps include:

Sumo-Bots: The Ultimate Battle!
8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, April 3-6

Back by popular demand, this high-energy and exciting robotics camp is now offered for our younger future engineers. Under the direction of KCC’s Bruin Bots coach, students will work together using Lego NXT kits to design robots that are sturdy, nimble and strong enough to push their opponents out of the ring. Teams will spend the first part of the week learning about and designing their robot, then program it to use sensors to drive autonomously inside the ring as they start their battle! The week will end with a competition where students can show off their warriors and battle to the end. May the best bot win!

Speed Racer Experience: So Fast and Furious!
1-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, April 3-6

In this camp, students will learn to design Lego NXT drag racers that not only look cool but are engineered to withstand the inevitable crashes and obstacles they will meet on their way to the finish line. Being fast isn’t enough; to be a good engineer you need to be able to build creations that both perform well and are structurally sound. Before Speed Racer is ready to peel out, students will need to understand gear ratios, aspects of structural design and NXT brick programming options that will best help them win the day! The camp will end with elimination drag races between teams until only one is left as the checkered flag is waved. On your mark, get set – go built a bot!
