Four Kellogg Community College cross country runners earned postseason athletics awards from the Michigan Community College Athletic Association and/or National Junior College Athletic Association for their performances this season.

It was another incredible fall under fourth-year Head Coach Tom Shaw, with both teams winning their second consecutive regional championships. The women’s team ultimately finished fourth in the nation and the men’s team finished sixth in the nation at the NJCAA National Championships in Iowa Nov. 8.

KCC’s postseason award winners include:

  • Men’s sophomore Julian Borst (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School), NJCAA Division III Third Team All-American, NJCAA Region 12 Division III All-Region Team, All-MCCAA Team, MCCAA West All-Conference Team
  • Women’s freshman Alicyn Gleesing (Plainwell/Gull Lake High School), NJCAA Division III Third Team All-American, NJCAA Region 12 Division III All-Region Team, MCCAA West All-Conference Team, MCCAA West All-Freshman Team
  • Women’s freshman Elayna Guadamuz (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School), NJCAA Region 12 Division III All-Region Team
  • Women’s freshman Emma Taggett (Kalamazoo/Plainwell High School), NJCAA Region 12 Division III All-Region Team, MCCAA West All-Conference Team

In addition to the above awards, Gleesing was the individual NJCAA Region 12 Division III regional champion in October; the Bruins swept the top three spots in that race, with Taggett and Guadamuz coming in second and third, respectively. Gleesing placed 11th in the nation at the national championships Nov. 8, with Taggett placing 17th and Guadamuz placing 26th.

Borst took third individually in the men’s regional, and placed 12th individually at the national championships. He exits KCC as the most decorated and fastest runner in program history, with a personal best 45 seconds faster than the second-best time on record at the College.
