KCC to present “America the Beautiful” concert May 2 at Marshall District Library

Kellogg Community College’s Music Program in partnership with the Marshall District Library will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America with a special concert the first weekend in May in Marshall.

KCC’s “America the Beautiful” concert will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the library, located at 124 W. Green St. The concert is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required online at yourmdl.org/event/america-the-beautiful-celebrating-250-years-with-kellogg-community-college.

The concert will include performances by the KCC Choral Union, the KCC Jazz Band, Music Program faculty and student soloists under the direction of KCC Music Area Coordinator and Vocal Arts Director Dr. Gerald Case-Blanchard and KCC Jazz Band Director Eric Campbell.

Selections from the program include favorites like “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “America,” “Michigan Morn” and more, including a performance of the College’s original alma mater, “Alma Mater KCC.”

The concert is the first of three KCC concerts offered in early May, with the KCC Concert Band performing its annual spring concert on the College’s North Avenue campus in Battle Creek at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in the Binda Performing Arts Center, and the KCC Jazz Band performing its annual spring concert on campus at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 10, in the auditorium of the Davidson Visual and Performing Arts Center.

About Music at Kellogg Community College

KCC’s Arts and Communication Department offers a robust Music Program including a new Associate in Fine Arts degree in Music, which launched this past fall. Additional music opportunities for students and community members offered through the College include individualized voice and instrument lessons, master classes, student recitals, an annual Opera Workshop and other music initiatives, including youth performance camps.

In addition to performing regularly in its home state of Michigan, the KCC Choral Union has performed nationally at major venues in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and performed international concert tours of Ireland, Italy and the Baltics in 2012, 2014 and 2025, respectively.

KCC choirs have opened for several internationally renowned musicians, including Grammy Award-winning musical groups Take 6 and Sweet Honey in the Rock, and regularly collaborate with major musical organizations including the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, the Haydn Festival Orchestra, the Monroe Community Chorale and Symphony and the Sacred Music Festival of Kalamazoo.
