KCC seeks applicants for free forklift, electrical training for Battle Creek residents

Kellogg Community College is seeking applicants for two free training programs teaching skills for careers in electrical and manufacturing industries, including electric vehicle production and forklift operation.

Available programs include a five-week Forklift Training Program and an eight-week Electrical Production Operator Training Program.

Training for both programs – outlined below – will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays or Fridays beginning Oct. 12 at KCC’s Regional Manufacturing Technology Center, located at 405 Hill Brady Road in Battle Creek.

The programs are offered via KCC’s STEP UP initiative at no cost for Battle Creek residents who meet income guidelines.

“These training programs are about creating opportunities for Battle Creek residents while strengthening our local workforce,” Bobby Beauchamp, dean of Workforce Development at KCC, said. “Through STEP UP, participants receive industry-recognized training, personalized career coaching and support that prepares them for in-demand careers in manufacturing and skilled trades. We’re excited to help connect more residents with opportunities that can lead to long-term career success.”

In addition to skills-based training, both programs include:

  • Workplace success coursework and learning activities
  • Career coaches to help with goal setting, academic advising, barrier removal and job placement
  • Financial literacy training
  • Resume and job-interview training

Students can also earn the following credentials through the training:

  • Lockout/Tagout Certification (Forklift)
  • OSHA Certification

Forklift Training

The Forklift Training Program offered through KCC’s STEPUP initiative will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, Oct. 12 through Nov. 12.

Participants will learn to operate a forklift without risk of injury or damage, with coursework focusing on technical and professional skills including workplace safety, communication, problem-solving and teamwork.

Electrical Production Operator Training

The Electrical Production Operation Training Program offered through KCC’s STEP UP initiative will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays from Oct. 12 through Dec. 2.

Participants will receive training in electrical fundamentals, industrial trades math and essential professional and workplace skills. The program also includes structured coaching and support services, such as resume development, interview preparation and job-readiness training.

Deadlines and Eligibility

Individuals interested in participating in the Forklift or EPO training programs must contact KCC at 269-565-2828 or complete the information form online at kellogg.edu/stepup by 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3. Space is limited and training programs generally fill up quickly, so interested applicants are encouraged to inquire as soon as possible.
