Left-handed pitcher Joby Kawaski, of Decatur, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Kellogg Community College and will begin playing for the Bruins next season.
Kawaski, a senior at Decatur High School, was named a second-team all-state, division three pitcher his junior year and first-team all-conference pitcher his sophomore and junior years, pitching 112 strikeouts over 66 innings as a junior. Also a basketball player, Kawaski was named to the second-team all-conference for basketball his junior year, as well.
Eric Laskovy, head baseball coach at KCC, said Kawaski comes to the Bruins from a powerhouse high school program.
“Joby is a first-rate competitor and is a strong addition to our baseball program here at KCC,” Laskovy said.
KCC’s Bruins finished second in the National Junior College Athletic Association regional tournament last spring after finishing third in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association with a 17-9 conference record. The team also finished the 2013-14 season with a 3.28 team GPA – tied for the 10th highest out of more than 400 NJCAA baseball teams in the nation.
