KCC athletes honored for academic achievement

Kellogg Community College’s baseball and softball teams and four Bruins baseball players have been honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association for their academic achievements in the 2012-13 academic year.

KCC’s baseball and softball teams were named NJCAA 2012-13 All-Academic Teams, a designation that honors each team for achieving academic excellence and requires a minimum team GPA of 3.0.

The KCC baseball team carried a team GPA of 3.2 this year, while the KCC softball team carried a 3.03.

In addition to the team awards, the following KCC baseball players, all sophomores, were honored for their performance in the classroom this year:

  • Catcher Drew Carlile, of Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre High School, was honored for Superior Academic Achievement with a 3.94 GPA. Carlile was named to the Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s All-MCCAA 3rd Team this season and is committed to play baseball at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
  • Pitcher Chad Mayle, of Midland/H.H. Dow High School, was honored for Superior Academic Achievement with a 3.9 GPA. Mayle was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II 1st Team Baseball All-American and Michigan Community College Athletic Association Player of the Year this season, in addition to making the MCCAA’s All-Region XII Team, All-MCCAA 1st Team and the All-Tournament team while competing in the Region XII District championships in May. He was named the KCC’s Outstanding Male Scholar Athlete 2013 – the college’s highest honor for a male student-athlete – during the college’s annual Awards Banquet this spring and is committed to play baseball at Western Michigan University.
  • Pitcher/infielder Travis Moore, of Hastings/Lakeview High School, was honored for Exemplary Academic Achievement with a 3.71 GPA.
  • Outfielder Jacob Miller, of Rochester/Stoney Creek High School, was honored for Exemplary Academic Achievement with a 3.62 GPA.
