Employees at Kellogg Community College’s Bruin Bookstore collected 122 hooded coats and sweatshirts for charity as part of their sixth annual Hoodies for the Homeless campaign in November.

Bookstore Manager Catherine James said they delivered 10 large garbage bags of donated clothing, including mittens, hats and blankets in addition to the shirts and coats, to the Charitable Union earlier this month.

The collection was a true community effort, she said.

“We received items from students, staff and community members, an amazing donation,” James said. “When everyone works together it does make a difference. Thank you!”

The total number of shirts and coats donated was well over the bookstore’s original goal of 100, and brings the total number of shirts and coats donated since the first Hoodies for the Homeless campaign to nearly 530 items.

The Bruin Bookstore is located on the first floor of the Lane-Thomas Building on KCC’s North Avenue campus, 450 North Ave., Battle Creek. Store hours are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.

The store is running their Annual Christmas Sale through Thursday, Dec. 20, during which time all KCC clothing and gift items will be 20 percent off.
