Bruin Blast 2021 a psychedelic success

A day of beautiful sunshine and autumn breezes welcomed students back to campus amid a ‘60s themed festival of community partners, service-learning opportunities, registered student organizations and KCC resources, all aimed at helping students put their best foot forward and get involved to be successful at their time here at KCC and beyond.

Kellogg Community College’s 18th annual Bruin Blast celebration took place on the North Avenue campus in Battle Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 14. Participating students were able to connect with all these local resources, enjoy psychedelic tunes, get a free lunch courtesy of the Bruin Bistro and tie-dye a free T-shirt to commemorate the event.

“We were so grateful for a groovy chance to celebrate together once again as we welcomed our community back to the campus,” Kristin McDermott, Student Life department assistant and event organizer said. “Though we had to scale back our usual inflatable games and shenanigans to keep everyone as safe as possible, with the help of the KCC faculty and staff — as well as some long-standing local sponsors — we were still able to provide hundreds of students with a fun experience that shows off our Bruin pride.”

Donations from local partners allowed for KCC’s Office of Student Life to offer a chance to win prizes donated from area businesses. Event organizers wish to thank the prize donors of this year’s Bruin Blast:

  • Meijer
  • Trigo Hospitality (Pizza Hut)
  • McDonald’s
  • Binder Park Zoo
  • Binder Park Golf Course
  • Franke Center for the Arts

Students who participated in Bruin Blast, or any of the mini-Blasts at KCC’s regional centers, are encouraged to send the Office of Student Life photos of their new tie-dye creations via social media and the hashtag #PeaceLoveBruin.

The Office of Student Life is in the process now of collecting feedback from KCC students. If you would like to contribute, please visit https://tinyurl.com/Blast21Survey by Oct. 25. The data collected will be used to shape Bruin Blast events in the future to be more fun, more inclusive and more useful to our students.

The KCC Office of Student Life organizes Bruin Blast and many other events each semester for students to engage with each other and learn outside the classroom. They welcome feedback or suggestions for what YOU want to see on campus via phone or email at 269-565-2634 or studentlife@kellogg.edu.
