Let’s Talk … Culture: A BruIN magazine column from KCC President Dr. Paul Watson

We are proud that KCC is a comprehensive community college. We offer a wide range of education (curricular and non-curricular) options as well as enrichment programs that serve the diverse needs of our students and the communities we serve.

I am thankful that we have departments focused on the arts and music, as the overarching themes are those of inclusivity, creativity and personal growth – worthwhile goals in any KCC endeavor.

Furthermore, these related programs contribute to the cultural enrichment of our campus and the surrounding communities. They provide opportunities for students, faculty and community members to come together to appreciate and celebrate artistic expression.

I personally have been blessed to contribute with audiences in the act of music-making and music-taking, as well as being fed by several artistic expressions. I look forward to seeing many of you at our exhibits and concerts to experience the beauty and poetry of the arts – touching our hearts and, at times when most needed, to lift our spirits.

And thank you to all of our artists – for encouraging our immersion into your enchanting melodies or mediums. It is an amazing honor to be transported and welcomed into your worlds. As Pablo Casals said: “It is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart.”
