After a pair of decisive wins last week, the Kellogg Community College baseball team secured its seventh consecutive Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference championship.
The Bruins clinched the championship Thursday with a pair of wins over conference rival Lansing Community College in Lansing, defeating the Stars 8-2 and 6-4. KCC later completed a series sweep over Lansing this past Saturday with a doubleheader win at home in Battle Creek, with scores of 10-8 and 11-2, respectively.
KCC came into last week’s competition ranked 20th in the nation in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association rankings, where LCC was in the Receiving Votes category. It was a make-or-break series for the conference title.
“So proud of our team. It was great to get four wins against Lansing this week, along with clinching our seventh straight conference title,” Head KCC Baseball Coach Eric Laskovy said after Saturday’s wins. “Our work is not done yet.”
The Bruins finished regular-season play with a 22-3 conference record and a 38-10 record overall. They next move on to postseason play as part of the NJCAA Region XII Tournament starting May 9.
